The foam is soft enough to provide flexibility for items, but also dense enough to provide cushion for even the heaviest of items. Technical: Polyurethane is open cell which means air and water can flow freely throughout the foam. The material weighs about 1.2 - 1.3 lbs per cubic foot. Good fit

My S&W M&P shield fits snugly in the insert and does not move around in the case. There is some extra room beyond the front of the slide and at the bottom of the grip, probably for similar but longer models with further extended magazines which does not detract from how my shorter barrel gun is secured.
